Nike Golf Announces Air Zoom VaporFeb 11th, 2009 | By Editor | Category: Golf shoes
If you’re looking for a high-performance golf shoe — Nike style — this may be the one. Nike’s new Air Zoom Vapor (Suzann Pettersen’s choice of shoe, btw) is now hitting the virtual shelves of online golf apparel retailers.
What’s different about this shoe? First, it’s light, weighing in at only 13.8 ounces (for a men’s size 9 — even lighter for us!)
This hearkens back to Nike’s roots; as you probably know, the company’s founder, Bill Bowerman, originally made his mark with super lightweight running shoes. The Air Zoom Vapor golf shoe is inspired, according to Nike, by a soccer boot it introduced in 1998. It features a one-piece microfiber upper Nike designed to be strong, durable, and waterproof, but also breathable.
According to Nike, the material used for the Air Zoom Vapor upper is also highly form-fitting (the shoe has a full-length, contoured sockliner) and resistent to stretching.
What really caught our attention, however, is the technology Nike has incorporated into the shoe’s sole: Nike has designed it to facilitate weight transfer, lateral stability, and balance control.
Balance control? We like balance control!
In fact, if it’s possible for a shoe to actually help our game, we’re betting this is the one to do it. Oh, and Nike is backing its claims that the shoe will keep your feet dry with a two year limited warranty.
And now for the really tricky part. The new Women’s Nike Air Zoom Vapor is only just out in stores, so we had to hunt around for someone carrying it. So far, we found one etailer: GolfShoesPlus.com has it here, listed as available February 1. They’ve got a good price on it, too, well off the manufacturer’s suggested retail. So click and take a look, and as we find other retailers carrying it, we’ll update the site to let you know.
